Goncalo Duarte

Gonçalo Duarte is the Director of Architectural Engineering at X-Hab 3D. His work focuses on advancing the design and fabrication of 3D concrete printed (3DCP) structures, with a particular emphasis on housing, buildings, and extreme environments. He is responsible for developing computational frameworks that seamlessly integrate form, toolpath, and performance, pushing the boundaries of 3DCP technology.

Gonçalo sees the potential of this technology to revolutionize the way we design and build. He integrates computational design, structural engineering principles, optimization, programming, and structural testing to drive innovation in 3DCP. His expertise extends beyond computational aspects to include the successful fabrication of vaults, wall systems, and complex architectural structures.

Gonçalo holds a PhD in Architectural Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University and an MSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Lisbon. He has been honored with the 2021-22 Thomas and June Beaver Award for industry-sponsored research and the Portuguese 2022 Foundation for Science and Technology PhD Fellowship.
